That Room

Jenn and Kathy V's comments on my waterbed fiasco, got me thinking about "that room" in many of our homes.

When we first bought our house six years ago, we knew it would be at least a few years before we started trying for kids. We could barely afford to support ourselves and pay the mortgage, so adding a third human being to the mix did not seem like a good idea. Our house has three bedrooms as well as a bonus room. So when we first moved in we had our bedroom, my office, his office and a pool table room that you could refer to as "man land". A couple years ago, we sold the pool table to a friend (thereby dismantling "man land") and moved Jeramy's office into the bonus room so that we could free up one bedroom for that future baby. We figured the room could temporarily house the spare bed for the guests we rarely host along with a pile of junk. Temporarily. 2 years later (just 1 of those trying for kids) it is all still there.

To me, this room is just a sad reminder of what is not in it. In many ways it is just easier to close its door and try to forget its existence in my home. I wouldn't dare make it a true spare room. Doing that would signal that I'd given up hope, which is not the case. But I also don't dare start turning it into that future baby's room for fear of jinxing the whole thing. So the room continues to sit full of junk yet empty.

I am sorry for that. Our back bedroom has my lion king collection in it. Kuma (the little elf) likes to sit with Simba and nala. So for now. It isn't closed off but still not being used for its intended purpose. It is a difficult place to be in. I am hoping "that room" in your house will get used for its intended purpose soon.

I definitely have "that room", and since Thomas and I have moved 3 times in 3 years...I have had three rooms. In each place we lived I always made the statement "oh, this will certainly be perfect for the nursery". In every single house, that room was, and still is a junk/computer room. I can't bear to buy a guest bed because I just *know* I will have to move it for the crib soon.....crazy isn't it?

Oh Jen...hugs! We have ~that~ room too. It's currently my scrapbook room. I figure if I start to lose the faith/hope, I'm going to paint ~that~ room just the way I want it for scrapbooking and then surely Murphy's Law will have to kick in and we will get KU. Hopefully it won't come to that for either of us! Lots of ~~bfp vibes~~ sent your way!

I've got 'that' room, right now it houses all my shoe and all my clothes that don't fit. I've got everything from a size 4-10 in there. Another little treat of IF!

yup- THAT room is the room that has the cat's food, the ironing board. a random desk not used for anything, and all our old books & bills. anything we don't want to look at for a while. i wish i could clean it out, repaint it & use it- but i keep holding because i don't want to do it twice!

I hope we all get to use 'that room' the way we want soon.

That room.

I couldn't even go in the "baby's" room for several months after our last miscarriage. We had never decorated it as a baby's room, but it did have some things that people had gotten for us, so it felt like the room belonged to our lost one.

Our potential nursery is currently being used as our dog Josie's room and before that I kept the door closed. I only opened it when we began DI.

My DH and I originally lived in a pretty small 3 bedroom/1 bath house. We ended up adding on and completely remodeling our home so that we would have room for kids.

Bad idea...obviously! We now have "that room" that we even painted pale yellow when we were doing all the painting of the whole house. We didn't want to have to paint it again when we got pregnant.

Now it sits empty with a twin bed (the crib I got from my sister is still disassembled in the closet, thankfully)and a glider. I used to sit in that glider thinking of when I would be able to rock my own baby in it but don't anymore.

Actually I rarely go in there since our master br is downstairs and the other rooms are upstairs (including "that room"). So that makes it somewhat easier.

I hope you get to use your room soon though!

We have "that room" and my DH has asked me several times if we should/can do something with it, to which I hastily reply, "NO!" I do keep that door closed and pretend it's not there.
