One day at a time

I know that it isn't going to be like this forever. Someday she'll sleep for more than two to three hours at a time. Someday she'll be able to sleep in a crib rather than on me or in a swing or in a bouncy seat. Someday she'll be able to go longer than a few hours between feedings. Someday she'll do a little more than eat, poop and sleep all day. I'm very much looking forward to someday. But I have to keep reminding myself that as slow as these days are, I'll look back on them as fleeting moments. It has helped so much to hear from those of you that have been here before or are here now. Hearing that all this is normal and that it gets easier is enormously reassuring.

Here are a few more random thoughts:
  • For anyone out there who is fortunate enough to be able to plan births (which excludes most of my readership) I highly recommend not having a baby just before a major election. Daytime TV is boring enough (from noon to 4pm your only choices are court shows, Jerry Springer or soaps). But adding in all the political commercials is simply unbearable. Do people really make decisions based on these?
  • I was pretty worried after I gained 45 pounds by the end of the pregnancy. Well as of today I have lost 35 pounds of that. I guess I really had retained a lot of water! I can now cross my fingers and find my ankles again.
  • Maybe this isn't the most mature observation in the world, but I had no idea that babies fart and burp so much. This girl can be seriously embarrassing in public. Nobody is buying that such noises are coming from such a cute little thing and not myself.
Anyhow, I had better go as we are having a particularly fussy morning around here.

LMAO - I remember the Burping and Farting - and the throwing up days, I actually forgot about that part.

Yes- by time she is 2 months old, you will feel soooo pro at this. It won’t feel so alien like anymore, it will be second nature –
2 short itty bitty months
-and by 6 months (at least) you wont even remember what it was like to not be a mom – you’ll be able to cook dinner – do laundry – eat – bathe – and carry in groceries with a baby hooked to your hip like she is a belt. You won’t even notice the extra weight or juggling.
I'm probably not telling you anything you already know, but may I just say anyway - make sure you have a good swing that swings on its own, sometimes that was the only way I could get 1 or more full hours of sleep w/o interruption.
And for now~
Sleep when baby sleeps~
Be awake when baby’s awake~
Let someone else worry about the house. :)

Yes, it's crazy how much they fart. Chicken was a really grunty baby (super embarasing when I was in a change room).
I agree with Jewels, once she is 6 weeks you will have a routine and it will be old hat.
I didn't bond with Chicken right away because I was so tired, confused and hormonal, but everyday got easier not harder. I found that people would scare me with the "if you think it's hard now, you just wait until...:. It's not true because you are much more bonded with your baby, so don't listen to them.
I also agree wtih Jewels about the swing and a good carrier incase she just wants to be held and you need free hands. And gripe water!
And congrats on the weight!! BF makes for lots of post baby calorie burning!!

No meltdowns AND you have lost all but 10 pounds?? Girl, you are a pro at this compared to me.

I recommend a Moby wrap if you'd like to have your hands free every now and then. They are $40 at www.attachedtobaby.com. The Slinglings pouches are great too.

And you know what doesn't have political commercials? Movies from Netflix! ;)

Burping and Farting are part of Lemy's chorus of bodily symphony. Add to that her explosive poops and projectile vomiting and we might be able to be put together a CD for Christmas of all of her wonderful little noises. :)

Hang in there. Things will get better and you're right, one day you will look back on this time and miss it more than anything in the world. But as they get older they become much more fun--and that makes the fussing that much more bearable.

You read my mind completely!

My little man can push out some amazing noises (from his mouth and bum)...it's pretty funny!

In my experience the burping and farting subsides after awhile - then comes back in a raging fury when they turn about 8 years old.

Congrats on the weight loss! And it's good to see that you're adjusting to mommyhood.
