A Royal Pain in the Ass

Ever since I found out I'm having a girl, I've been preparing myself for a difficult child. By his mother's accounts, Jeramy was a sweet baby and child. I know that was not the case for me. Even though my mom is no longer here to tell the horror stories, I've heard them often enough. First I had colic as an infant. Then as a toddler and preschooler I was bossy and demanding. My little sister did not need to learn how to speak, as I took care of that for her. I would get up after spending the night at my grandparents house and demand a homemade breakfast of blueberry pancakes. There are videos of me at Christmas instructing every family member on exactly what they needed to do. Frankly, I was obnoxious.

So while I pray that my daughter behaves more like her father, I am fully expecting a daughter more like myself. But what I wasn't prepared for was that she would become a pain in my ass before she even vacated my body. Over the course of the last two weeks I've developed constant pain in my rear around my tail bone. It is fine first thing in the morning, but after a day of sitting (at my desk, in the vanpool, in front of the TV) it gets increasingly more stiff and painful. At first, I figured it would go away quickly. But it didn't. So I called the nurse at my OB's office, and she confirmed that this was a common pregnancy symptom due to the expansion of the uterus. Of course this strikes me as odd, given that my only baby bump is on the front side of my body and not my back. But I'll take their word for it. Of course I can't take an anti-inflammatory...have I mentioned how much I miss ibuprofen? Luckily the treatment of heat and tylenol seems to be quite effective. Oh and I have now officially delegating lawn mowing responsibilities to Jeramy.

That sucks! I hope it goes away soon!

That really stinks! I hope that is a fleeting symptom not a stick-it-out-until-the-end symptom. Ick!!

Oh you mean you aren't growing a baby bump on the back side too? I hope the tylenol and heat continues to work for you. I am sorry that you have found that your daughter is obnoxious even before her arrival. "They" do always say that you have atleast one child who is exactly like you. So maybe it is in her genes that she is exactly like you already.

Ah, sciatica. That sucks. If it helps at all, I've had this pain for most of the second trimester, but it tends to escalate, then disappear for a few weeks, then reappear for a few weeks, .... Not sure what's causing it, but I do know that when it gets bad, I start to do a lot more leg & back stretches, so maybe that's helping. Good luck!

I guess you could always file this away under "Things I Am Going To Hold Over Your Head When You Are Older."

Maybe she'll look like you and act like Jeramy!! You know, half and half?!?!

I think that the baby's personality has a lot to do with the way you are feeling while pregnant. If you are stressed and anxious you will have a demanding baby. If you like being pregnant and life is generally easy, your baby will be too. Just my theory though...
About the tail bone, you will get used to it. My ribs on my right side used to hurt like crazy and after a few weeks I just got used to it. The day you have your little girl it will go away - it's crazy like that!

Believe it or not, but a hemorroid pillow will help with that pain in the tail bone. I unfortunately have that all the time (the pain, not hemorroids) and come to find out from my doctor it is because I have no butt, so she suggested the hemorroid pillow and it works great, give it a try.

That's gotta suck!! I'm sorry you are in pain and I hope it gets better soon!

Ouch. I hope that the baby lifts off it of it or something of that nature.

And I am sure you were sweet, too, in addition to some of your more demanding ways. Your little girl will capture your heart no matter how percocious she may be.

Ouchy! :/ Glad you have been able to help the pain. I'm very impressed that you waited until now to pass off the lawn mowing duties... you are a better wife than I am. :)

I noticed that you mentioned getting a glider-rocker on Kathy V's blog, so I wanted to pass along a recommendation. If you haven't gotten one yet, I recommend going to Cribs 2 Bunks (formerly USA Baby) in Tukwila/Southcenter. We also got our furniture there. Yes, you'll remember that we had a heck of a time waiting for it to arrive, but that wasn't the fault of the store (see references to avalanches and warehouse fires). Cribs 2 Bunks had great customer service while we were waiting. We drove ALL OVER Seattle from the cheap stores to the posh, and this one had the best balance of cost to quality. Unless you are going to shop IKEA, you are going to pay a lot no matter what. Might as well get something that will last. I used the Baby Bargains book (www.babybargains.com) for research and have been super happy with what we got.

Commercial over.

Yes, the hemorrhoid pillow works great, but sadly for me, I could still use it for both. My hemorrhoids or pain in the tail bone have followed me throughout the years. Maybe if I would have gotten one before I delivered instead of after, I wouldn’t be so permanently damaged. GL

Hi Jenn! I just found your blog. Congrats on your growing baby girl! I hope that she's more like your DH. We've been very lucky. My DD is 8mos old now and has been a great baby. She's getting a little clingy now and bed time is the hardest thing with her, but even that's not bad. Of course she can't talk back yet...we'll see. ;)
