A Small Sign of Relief

Thanks everybody for your comments and reassurances on my last post. I keep reminding myself that statistics are on our side for a healthy baby. I think it was the whole chat with the genetic counselor that had me worked up, because such conversations are bound to be focused on the negative and what if scenarios.

The good news is that the fetal echo went great yesterday. We were doing it because of a history of heart problems in Jeramy's family (we did one with Jillian also), but I certainly made sure to mention how the other ultrasound went so they could be on the lookout for anything else negative. Luckily all they saw was what appears to be a perfectly healthy little heart. Phew! Hopefully the follow-up ultrasound in a couple more weeks will only bring more good news.

I hated my consultation with the genetic counselor too, and worst part, they charged us out the butt for her little visit and my insurance did not pay for it.
Now I know why they "asked" me if I'd like to speak with her, rather than just have her come talk with us. I think they were taking my order and I didn't even know it.
It's like when you go to the salon in the winter and they ask "would you like a blow dry before you leave?" you nervous and don't want to look cheap and ask "does it cost anything?" so instead you just say "sure" then they charge $18 bucks for the stupid blow dry.

Hooray for a great echo!

I have faith all will be well at the next ultrasound. :-)

Ugh, just catching up. I'm so sorry to read that you're even having to worry about this. When I kept measuring behind, THAT had me worried and emotional, so I can't imagine how much harder this is for you. I think the other girls are right re the stats, and unfortunately you just have to ride this out and hope. And we'll all hope for you too.

I had a marker for trisomy 18 on Maggie - and all was totally fine. We wouldn't have done anything with the additional info on the amnio so we weren't going to do it anyway, but it's stressful meeting with the genetic counselor.

There are a bunch of bigger markers - like the shape of the head and the heart, and since that is all normal, I would try not to stress.

You know my scares with downs and our statistic was 1 in 97 (or something like that) and I was terrified. Because we were so early (11 weeks) I did the CVS, even though it statistically didn't make sense too - but I'm one of those people who just had to know. Given my age (37), I was just so scared.

I'm sure all is okay Jen. I know how scary it is but it's WONDERFUL her heart is in good shape - that's a big marker for down's, isn't it? ("bad" heart)

Breathing a sigh of relief with you. I'm sorry for the torture, but worth it for the comfort, huh?

Praying for more good news to come!

So glad you got good news. Yes, the odds are very much in your favor for everything to be OK and you know that... but I understand how the worry worm can wiggle in and make you crazy at times. Hang in there. We're all here for you.
