The wire transfer of funds from the sale of our house hit the bank account this morning, and we were rich for a day. Well a day might be an exaggeration because Jeramy began transferring funds to the appropriate places before I even knew the money had arrived. So we were rich for like an hour or so.
The big project on the horizon is an addition to the new house. Right now we have three bedrooms, but one of those rooms is in the basement where I would rather not put a child. For one it is cold down there and far away from my watchful eye (that's right teenaged Jillian...I already don't trust you). But also it has a door out to the one car garage and an extremely small outside window. It makes a great office, but it's a poor excuse for a bedroom if you ask me. And while it is fine to have two bedrooms right now, I would like to have one more kid someday. Sooooo we are adding on a new and bigger master bedroom! It will hook into the existing bathroom and walk-in closet making for a pretty straight forward addition. We have hired a contractor to do the foundation, framing, roofing and siding, but we will finish up the interior to save money since Jeramy is a pretty handy guy.
It is so nice to have Jeramy at home right now to work on this and the many other home improvement projects we have going. He is seriously the busiest unemployed guy I know. And sadly, I know a lot of them these days.

I loved that rich for a day feeling! Good luck with the addition- doing it yourself (even part) is tough because it always seems to take longer, but it feels so good to say 'we did that!'
And while I know another 8 days is nothing in the grand scheme of things- I so can't even imagine living through them right now! ;o)
Wow, that's great. I don't know where you guys find the time! I guess it's a good thing that Jeramy is home for now to manage all the new things happening there! Good luck...can't wait to see photos of the new master suite when it's completed!
That's awesome that Jeremy is so handy with tools. Cole thinks he is, but he's really not. It's so sad how many people have been laid off in the past year.
Now I have "If I Were a Rich Man" from Fiddler on the Roof in my head. My Dad used to sing it at home growing up... it was probably the only song I've ever heard him sing. (We had a "no singing in the house" rule. He smiled when he reminded us about it, but he meant it. To get him back, I sometimes institute a "you must sing everything you say in the house" when he visits us out here.)
But I digress. I'm glad the house stuff went through. The addition will be awesome. I only wish DH was handy like that! It took him two days to install the baby gate at the top of the stairs. But I love the guy.
Congrats on closing the sale! My husband is ... I don't know, what's the opposite of "handy"? He takes an afternoon to hang pictures on the wall.
Even if just for an hour, I bet it was an exciting hour!
"(that's right teenaged Jillian...I already don't trust you)" <--- that made me crack up.
Ah, to be rich for a day. Wouldn't it have been more fun to run off to aruba? :)
We're in the same boat...3rd bedroom is in the basement. Not exactly the greatest place for a kid. Our dream is to add a master, too (our bedroom is the size of a crackerjackbox). Sigh....so jealous. But excited for you nonetheless. BigB is handy, but really does NOT enjoy the process or the work.
Aren't handy husbands just so nice to have! I hope the addition goes smoothly.
Good luck with the construction work! I can't wait to see before and after pics.
I can't believe how grown up Jillian is getting! She's such a little cutie.
