The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Well let me start with the bad first. I came home yesterday to a letter from my OB saying I'm anemic and to start taking 325mg of iron a day pronto. Really this is not so bad nor unexpected. I'm always borderline anemic anyhow, so the results really weren't surprising. If anything is surprising, it is that the blood work performed during my first trimester didn't show any anemia. And if the OB feels comfortable informing me of this via snail mail, then my iron levels probably aren't too horribly low. I do, however, see another battle with constipation looming.

This news does lead to the good, however. If my OB can manage to mail me a letter regarding my anemia, I must be in the clear on the gestational diabetes test. I can continue eating carbs without guilt AND I don't have to fast for a 3 hour test!

And for the ugly, it is stretch marks. I spent some time examining my belly in the mirror the other day, and things are just not looking good down there. I think that maybe I'll have to follow Jeramy's advice on abandoning my dreams of becoming a supermodel.

Just wanted to leave a few words of advice for you...

Go to your local health food store and look for something called "Gentle Iron". It is easier on the stomach and digestive system.

Good luck with everything else...

Oh, well good about you passing your GTT.
Your OB mailed you results?! Seriously? I cannot imagine a dr doing that, it would piss me off! I am so high maintenance.
Glad everything seems to be well... except for the stretchmarks. Are you using vitamin E or anything?
*hugs*

Sorry about the low iron, I've always been borderline anemic too. So I can feel your pain.

Awesome news about the GTT!! Carbs, here you come.

Ugh, stretch marks are so unfair. As if going through a pregnancy isn't enough. But try not to look at them as a bad thing, instead look at them as a badge of honor. Sorry that's the end of my assvice.

I am sure you will always be a supermodel in Jeramy's eyes! I hope your body adjust well to the iron. Enjoy eating carbs and quit looking at your skin- it must stretch!

Congrats on the GTT (and welcome to the club for both the anemia and stretch marks). I've been taking the stretch marks in stride. I'm not a bikini-type person, so me and hubby are really the only people who are ever gonna see them. He couldn't care less, so why should they matter to me?

I found these awesome fiber bars in the diet section of the grocery store. They are made by fiber one:

As for the stretch marks, I think that you are supposed to use cocoa butter or something.

Glad to hear that you can enjoy your carbs!

Yay for the glucose test- boo for the iron & I hear ya on the stretch marks. I am not even pregnant yet (I think ...) and I get stretch marks. Hopefully we keep our ankles. ;o)

What?!? We can't be supermodels with stretch marks? I thought that was what airbrushing was for. Oh well. Good luck with the extra iron and sorry about the potential constipation. My vitamin has extra iron in it so maybe they can just give you an extra vitamin or a different one. Atleast the glucose test went well.

I got the same exact results with my GD test - okay on the diabetes side of things...anemic on the iron side of things. I'm taking the same iron supplements too. So far no MAJOR issues on the constipation front - I've just upped my water intake to help out a bit and tried to eat more fiber.

So sorry about the stretch marks - I'm patiently waiting for mine to start forming. I've been using oil on my belly about every other night lately - if nothing else it helps to soften my skin!

Sorry about the anemia, but hooray for no GD! Also sorry about the stretch marks.

YAY for passing the GTT! That was such a relief for me as well as I was terrified to have to limit my diet. As for the stretch marks...have you tried Bio Oil? They sell it at CVS. I don't know that it really works, but I've used it and I've also been using the Burt's Bees belly butter and I've been ok with stretch marks. A friend recommended the Bio Oil because she swore by it. :)

Yay for carbs!

And I worry about stretch marks... I've got em from puberty so I can only imagine what's in store...
